WiFT LA produces special events, seminars, parties and exhibitions throughout the year - and partners with other regional organizations to extend professional development opportunities for its members.

 

Alice Evening:

This monthly networking social gathering, named after the first narrative film director, Alice Guy Blaché, provides members the opportunity to present their work and/or topics of interest. Members and potential members are welcomed.

The Next Step Series:

This comprehensive education series offers guidance through the film-making process - from writing the script through festival strategy and distribution. Group size is small, and includes presentations and Q&A from industry professionals.

 

WIFT Louisiana Panels & Reception at the New Orleans Film Festival:
Our annual panel and reception at The New Orleans Film Festival is open to the public; anyone can attend.

 

The WiFTI Short Film Showcase, sponsored by WiFT International:
Our annual international showcase features short films by members of WIFT chapters around the globe, coinciding with International Women’s Day March 8. The WiFT Louisiana Annual Membership Meeting:
Held annually on the second Wednesday of June to elect new Board members. Outgoing Board members and officers are recognized for their service. All WIFT Louisiana members are encouraged to attend to cast their votes! 

The WiFT Louisiana Iris Award is presented at the Holiday Party; which honors women who have made outstanding contributions to the film industry and support of the local film community. The first Iris Award was given in December 2013 to screenwriter/director/ Professor Mari Kornhauser, one of the writers of hit show “Treme”, a film professor at Louisiana State University, director / writer of feature films. In 2016, WIFT Louisiana presented the 2016 Iris Award to Susan Brennan, founder of Second Line Stages, one of the staunchest advocates of the film industry and supporter of local film community in Louisiana.

PROGRAMS SPOTLIGHT

THE NEXT STEPS PROGRAMS is a series of professional development workshops giving members of Women in Film & Television Louisiana the opportunity to be supported and to support individual ambitions in Film and Television.

 

In 2016, Colette Delacroix facilitated our pilot Writers' Krewe project, a series of 10 workshops focusing on Narrative Screenwriting. Participants developed diverse stories, ranging from adapting a book, creating a children’s television series, chronicling autobiographical events, and inventing a science fantasy world.

 

Attending the workshops were Pat Cheron, Heather Fusari, Kelly Gaines, Andrea

Kuehnel, Mariann Kwiat, Brianna McManus, Sandy Parker, Caterina Piccone, Sam Smith, and Candice Vaughn.
